A rare and very fine imperial polychrome decorated long neck globe vase, depicting two lions playing with ribbons, wheels, and silk ball in gentle red, green, yellow, and blue enamels to suit the imperial and scholastic taste of the court; the lion heads, tails, and hair are very finely painted with numerous minute dots and thin lines to achieve stereo effect without using Western oil painting technique; the vase’s neck is elaborately decorated with floral branches on a bright green ground; the body is made of very fine and white clay; the white (transparent) glaze is unctuous, even, and smooth, with trace greenish tint; the base and the foot are well cut, with foot rim finely polished before firing; these features are typical of the imperial porcelains of this period; this is one of the best decorated Daoguang imperial vase.
