沉香，又稱“伽南香”、“奇南香”，心材為難得香料原料。據稱其脂膏凝結成塊，入水能沉，故名“沉香”。在中國歷來是較為珍貴的木材和香料之一。沉香木色深沉，成品往往風格古樸凝重，與犀角製品有相似的裝飾效果。此筆筒構圖錯落有致，層次分明。山岩凹凸嶙峋，環雕蒼松、幽竹、垂柳，殊為精絕，廬舍隱於遠山近水之中，樵者、漁夫棲會其間。刀法犀利，雕刻嫺熟，不愧為一件文房精作。
