ARCHAIC BRONZE ‘TAOTIE’ RECTANGULAR RITUAL VESSEL, YI
西周 獸面紋銅方彝
Western Zhou Dynasty period.
Of rectangular form with pointed top and widened bottom, the archaic
bronze vessel yi depicts Taotie masks on the sides, between birds and
phoenix band patterns, incised with archaic text.
四坡式屋頂形器蓋，上有蓋鈕，深腹，器壁平直而略內斜。蓋、及器身皆飾獸面
紋及鳳鳥紋，然為不同的結構，蓋面為倒置的分解式獸面紋，有一對宏大的外卷
角，腹部為虎頭形的獸面紋，其獸角為造型為彎尾內勾的龍形，頗為奇特，這種
紋飾只見於甚精的器物上。在青銅器中方彝的數量比較少，因此，每一件器物都
是比較珍貴的，而此器造型莊重大方，紋飾精麗，鑄造一絲不苟。蓋內有三行十
八字銘文，更顯此器珍貴。
